Successful opening of Shepherd Group's park and leisure homes division in Rushden on October 25th 2008
Peter Bone MP formally opened the new facilities of Shepherd Park & Leisure Homes Ltd (SP&LH) on Saturday October 25th in Rushden, Northants. Mr Bone told members of the public, Councillor Mrs Barbara Jenney, Rushden Town Mayor and her consort, Councillor David Jenney and other VIPs that he was delighted to have the unusual opportunity of opening a new factory in his constituency. The facilities on a 6.5 acre site in Shipton Way comprise a purpose-built, state-of-the-art factory for the production of park homes and leisure lodges, two permanent show "villages" and luxurious customer facilities. Councillor Jenney added in a speech that she had attended a number of openings but never the opening of a whole village. She added that she was extremely impressed with the comfort and luxury of the park homes and lodges as she viewed them. At Shipton Way there are two show "villages" now open to the public seven days a week. One village displays nine stylish park homes, an example from each range built by the Homeseeker Park Homes brand and the other village comprises six luxury leisure lodges manufactured under the Advent Leisure Homes brand. This village complements Advent's main show village at York, which has 12 homes on permanent display.
The formal opening on Saturday 25th was a successful and well-attended public event. SP&LH donated £1000 to the Northampton-based Cynthia Spencer Hospice whose volunteers served hot drinks and snacks throughout the day. Representatives from Waitrose kindly held delicious cheese and wine sampling. Homeseeker's UK Sales Manager, Peter Berwick, held an informal session on Saturday afternoon to answer questions from the public about park home and leisure lodge living in the UK - fast becoming a popular lifestyle of choice for many people.
Friday 24th October was a preview day for the industry during which park managers and owners viewed the facilities and homes. (Park homes and lodges are built to order for customers and then permanently sited on the park of their choice). About 30 residential and holiday parks from all over the UK were on hand during Saturday and Sunday to help and advise visitors.
The show villages were also open on Sunday 26th October. Around 1000 people attended over the three days and SP&LH's Managing Director, Bill Clarke said: "We are delighted that the public and VIPS who kindly attended enjoyed the opening event. We have received excellent feedback about our park homes and lodges. They represent stylish, cost-effective and flexible living for many people in the 21st century. Rushden has excellent communication links with the rest of the country and is an ideal location for our two show villages. They are the largest of their kind in the UK and, importantly, are in a real-life outdoor setting. With the benefit of natural light they enable people to experience the homes just as they would on a park."
The show villages at Rushden are fully accessible and there is ample free parking.
They are open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm.
